Ringstead to Durdledoor and Lulworth Coastal Path Circular
Time & Location
About The Event
This is a wonderful 10 mile walk from above Ringstead along the undulating and stunning coastal path to the famous Durdle Door Arch and Lulworth Cove.
Following some brief introductions and safety talks we can begin our walk - there will be plenty of time for everyone to get to know each other as we progress through the day. From our starting point at the South Down National Trust car park above Ringstead (NB there are not toilets here), we will follow a path that takes us to Sea Barn Farm and a joining point with the South West Coastal Path, right above Burning Cliff. The trail undulates dramatically as we make our way along the cliff via West Bottom, Middle Bottom and Swyre Head. Be prepared for some serious ascents and descents and to have your breath taken away by the incredible sea views that are maintained throughout this stretch of the walk.
4.5 miles later and we will have reached the famous natural Durdle Door sea arch and stop for a few moments to take in the views alongside those who have ambled their way to the viewpoint from Lulworth. It is expected that we will then saunter down the mile-long tourist path to Lulworth and Lulworth Cove, using this as a loo-stop and make a decision as a team whether to stop here for lunch or press on a bit further. Our group walks are designed to offer a zero-stress day and have the atmosphere of friends talking a walk together, so please feel able to communicate whenever you want to stop for a drink or snack, although the walk leader will ensure everyone is well looked after!
If we do head into Lulworth, we will make our way up to the Durdle Door caravan park via a path that takes us out of the village and through gentle fields alive with skylarks and wildflowers. Once at the holiday park we will begin to work our way back to the car along along the inland bridleway ridge route on Old Daggers Gate track; this stretch of walking is considerably more gentle then earlier in the day and if the weather is good, we can amble along enjoying far-reaching sea views and a gentle breeze.
The final mile takes us north west along Falcon Barn Lane right back the car.
Whether you attend alone or with friends/family, you'll soon get to know everyone in the group and enjoy a stress-free day.
Approx. 5/6hrs for 10miles

Getting to the South Down National Trust car park:
From Weymouth take the A353 and after Osmington turn right to Upton (also signposted beach café), continue straight (do not turn right to the beach café/Ringstead bay ) along the road to the end where it turns into a field and car park (clearly signposted as National Trust). There is no charge for the car park but cars are left at owners own risk.
There are no toilets at the start of this walk. However, there are loos at Lulworth Cove near the visitors centre. This is around half way. Wild wee's are welcome but there is little cover on the walk.

The weather can play a major role in our enjoyment of a day's walking, and in some cases can present a real danger. We always review the weather forecast in detail the day before and will send you an email if we have to change any plans. This is however only likely if we feel heading out will put us at real risk. Please do check the forecast for yourself and come prepared for whatever the weather! If you need a kit list or gear advice, please get in touch.
Please note that the walks are weather dependant. Should the forecast present any danger, we will endeavour to review our plans and offer alternative routes.
Food and Drink:
We will not be providing any food or drink on this walk other than a few spare snacks and water if needed in an emergency. Please ensure you have adequate food and drink for the day. You are welcome to buy food and top up on water in the villages we pass through (if any) so long as everyone is happy to stop. If you have any questions or need any help/advice with what food to bring, please feel able to get in touch.
